Ionising Radiation

Ionising Radiation

What Is Ionising Radiation?

The HSE regulates work with ionising radiation to ensure that workers and members of the public are not harmed by these activities. According to the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 (IRR99) only those workers who are classified Category A require medical surveillance. Classified persons are those who are likely to receive a dose of radiation greater then 6 msv per year, or an equivalent does greater than three-tenths of any of the dose limits for other tissues.

This includes:

  • Skin assessment
  • Respiratory assessment
  • Mental health assessment
  • Consent form
