When Was Your Last Lead Medical?

Are your employees at risk from lead exposure? As an employer you have a duty of care to monitor their level of exposure using specific lead medical assessments. A lead medical evaluates the concentration of lead within a persons’ bloodstream, to determine if they have been exposed to dangerous levels as a result of their work. Industries in which this is particularly relevant include:

  • Plumbing
  • Construction
  • Demolition
  • Ship building
  • Lead mining
  • Pottery

An initial medical assessment should be undertaken before a new employee starts work, or within the first 14 working days.

All employees who are at risk should have periodic tests for lead, based on the results of their previous tests, as well as an annual medical. Under the lead regulations, these medicals have to be undertaken by a doctor specifically approved by the HSE.
